On June 29, 1998, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith released a document clarifying the three kinds of truths that Catholics must believe. These are (1) Truths that are formally and directly contained in the deposit of the Faith, (2) Truths that logically follow from truths of the first category, and (3) Truths that historically follow from truths of the first category.
